WTF is Content Marketing?
What is content marketing?
It's the opposite of the traditional, forced ads. It's not a web banner, commercial, or bilboard. Content marketing is simply creating relevant and compelling content in a consistent fashion to a targeted buyer. It focuses on all stages of the buying process, from brand awareness to brand advocacy.
Here's some history;
The goals of content marketing are many, here's a list;
Build Brand awareness or Reinforcement - This is long term, authentic, organic, and actually works.
Lead conversion and Nurturing - Through content marketing you can actually encourage a potential customer to give up enough information to allow "Permission Marketing"
Customer Service - This is huge, when a company does not reply to its comments and concerns it comes off as rude and inauthentic, like there isn't actually a human being manning the other end of this thing.
Customer Loyalty & Retention
Customer Upsell
Passionate Subscribers - If you get here, you're definitely doing it right.
So whats the point?
Be Real, Show 'em what you're about, Be Genuine, and Interact.
Consumers want to interact with the brands they like. They are willing to reach out and follow those brands on all kinds of social media. They volunteer to be marketed to. Do it right and neither of you will regret it. As for what's right for you and your customer base, that's something you will have to decide.

Yes, content marketing has been around since the beginning of time, just called many other things, as shown in the video, but today how we get the content is more up to the consumer that the ad agencies telling us how we are going to get it. I feel your statement was true a 100 years ago and is still true, but advertisers have lost site of that because of technology (i.e. special effects) and are trying to be too cleaver and the new media is making them have to go back to basics, surprisingly. Tell us your story, be truthful and tell us the way we want to be told, when we want to be told.
ReplyDeleteThe best advertising isn't the ad that screams at you to buy. The best advertisements compel you to love what the company or product stands for before they offer you a chance to be a part of what they are.
